While this hasn't been a particularly bad year for me, I'm still going to be happy to see 2010 go.

I had some incredible experiences - including a trip to the Pacific Northwest in August, combined with some epic hiking around Mount Rainier - and made some creative progress, particularly in the roleplaying game I'm GMing and in the one I designed. ( Read more... )

Not often I get to write a post from inside a sleeping bag at the top of a mountain. But lupabitch convinced me to hit the trail one last time before heading home. Unfortunately, it seems that my hiking companions are done with the trip. This is due to a few factors. One, the aforementioned knee injury is - while minor in the grand scheme of things - enough to make further backcountry hiking not a smart idea for the injured party. Just so y'all know, kadyg and I are not going to be spending all weekend at BayCon like usual. We usually staff the con with the newsletter Jackal Pack, but for various reasons (some involving internal con drama that doesn't need to be spread) we're taking a year off. So after last night's whiny rant, I decided I need to push myself a little more out of my comfort zone today and/or have fun. Every con has its flavor. Compared to scifi/regional/general cons, furry cons are a lot more hands-on and close-knit, because a much higher proportion of the fandom is creators and there's a much more DIY aesthetic than with fans of various flavors of traditional media. ( Read more... )
